Ontario Investing $25M For State-Of-The-Art Research Centre

The Ontario government is investing $25 million in a new state-of-art research centre at the University of Toronto says a recent press release by the CNW Group.

The province will invest $25 million in the school, which will bring
together the Munk Centre for International Studies and the independent Canadian International
Council. The school will also forge strong ties with the School of Public Policy and Governance and the Rotman School of Management.

Researchers, faculty and students at the new school will investigate global economic trends, build relationships with partners around the world in business, government and academia, and develop innovative policy ideas that will help Ontario attract jobs and investment.

This investment will create opportunities for 15 new PhD students this year and 40 more master’s students over the next two years. The new school will offer a collaborative PhD program in Global Change - the first of its kind in Canada.

The project is part of Ontario’s $970-million infrastructure investment in universities, colleges and training centres across the province. The investment includes:

  • $200 million in 2007-08 to maintain and renew university facilities
  • $200 million over three years to build and expand skills training
    centres and facilities
  • $60 million over three years for the College Equipment and Renewal
    Fund
