Canadian Animators To be Given Exposure, Cash From TELETOON
Rise to attention, aspiring animators! Entries for the 2008 TELETOON Animation Scholarship will be accepted until the cut-off date of June 13, reports The Independent & Free Press. A panel of industry professionals will judge applicants. Overall there are 12 awards that can be won, with each of the entries being screened at the 2008 Ottawa International Animation Festival.
Aspiring animators are encouraged to submit a short animated work. The scholarship is the only one of its kind for Canadian students studying animation and has been developed with key members of the industry to highlight and encourage new talent. Canadian animators that are either graduating from high-school in a post-secondary animation program can enter a short animation to be considered in one of three categories: Entrance (for graduating high school students); Continuing Education (for students currently studying animation at the post-secondary level); Most Promising Student (for students graduating from a post-secondary animation program). Grand prizewinners in each category win a cash prize of $3,000 with the second and third place winners receiving $2,000 and $1,500 respectively.
From Aug. 18, the 30 submissions selected as finalists will be available for viewing at teletoon.com/scholarship and visitors are encouraged to watch the animations and vote for their favourite. The most popular short in each category wins The Voter’s Choice Award of $750.
